This core program focuses on supporting Black/racialized individuals with mental health disabilities to prepare for, secure, and maintain employment or become self-employed. It emphasizes overcoming barriers, including anti-Black racism, and enhancing workplace inclusivity and accessibility.
Participants receive training to navigate and mitigate psycho-social hazards, understand and respond to micro-aggressions, and comprehend Canadian workplace dynamics. This includes soft skills development, professional networking, and achieving work-life balance, tailored for both women and men.
Offering full wrap-around services, including counseling from Black psychologists/therapists, bi-weekly peer support group sessions, and women-only options, to address the unique challenges faced by participants.
Providing stipends for food, personal supplies, professional clothing for work or volunteer placements, along with childcare or dependent subsidies, transportation subsidies, and physical disability supports as needed.
Participants have access to healthy eating and wellness advice from nutritionists/wellness practitioners and are equipped with computer hardware and software to facilitate remote work options.
Including access to a 32-hour computer boot camp for those seeking to retrain in IT or related fields, and placement in volunteer, internship, or paid work positions to transition into permanent employment or self-employment.
Starting with individual assessments by a social worker, the program ensures personalized return-to-work plans, applies a gender lens for women participants, and conducts ongoing evaluations to adapt and improve support.
